mispronunciations

At 2.5 years old, Sara is the best talker of our three kiddos. She has such an incredible vocabulary and understanding for all things spoken. But to go along with her extended vocabulary, she also probably has more mispronunciations than the other two did (once they really started talking). Here are some of them:

kicken - chicken
grink - drink
biper - diaper
hains - hands
bain - van
weg - leg
keek - cheek
gacket - jacket
Gesus - Jesus
kip - chip

reality

So...I was taking a few pictures of the kids earlier.  I was trying to get a picture of the three of them together.  All they really wanted to do was take silly pictures.  When we finished with the "real" pictures, I let them be silly.  Here are the "more like reality" pictures!

a boat

Last Monday, Caroline created this during her afternoon downtime. I thought it was pretty good. She told me that it's a boat. She's definitely got a creative/artistic mind.

I Have Decided...

Nathan has been working on learning to play "I Have Decided" on the piano.  He wanted to do something that "sounded better".  To him, that means more notes played at once.  This is the hymn that we decided on.  This video is well into the process once he was able to more or less play it straight through.  He is playing a little better now.

a couple quotes

The other day, we were walking through Walmart and Nathan and Caroline were having a conversation of some sort.  Here's the part I caught:

Caroline:  You and me can get married.
Nathan:  No, people who are related can't get married.
Caroline:  Well, I just need to find somebody to marry who is a Georgia Tech and not smoky.

What qualifications!

Then, today, I was talking to Sara and our conversation went something like this:

Me:  Are you my sweet girl.
Sara:  Yes.  God likes it when I'm sweet.
Me:  Yes, He does.
Sara:  God lives in Heaven.
Me:  Yep.
Sara:  Where do I live?
Me:  You live on Earth.
Sara:  Where do you live?
Me:  I live on Earth.
Sara:  Daddy lives at work.
Me:  No, Daddy lives on Earth, too.

It's always so funny to me to hear how their little brains work and what they are or aren't comprehending correctly.

Sara singing "Jesus Loves Me"

I've been trying to upload a video of Sara singing "Jesus Loves Me" for about a week.  I realized today that it wasn't working because it was slightly too big.  So...here's one that's a little smaller.

soccer video

I couldn't find a good video of Caroline getting in there and kicking the ball.  I'm sure there is something better on the "real" video camera.  Hopefully Matt will be able to download part of it for me soon.  In the meantime, I included this one because Caroline often stopped to look at me after a play...just part of her game.  She also enjoyed holding conversations with her teammates.  When she wasn't sick, she got in there and played pretty hard.  We enjoyed watching her play soccer this season.

soccer girl

Last week, Caroline finished up her first season of soccer. Here are a few pictures from her first and last games. I will try to get some video up soon as well.

out west

At the end of July, we took a trip out west (thanks, Grandma and Granddad!). After a bit of trouble getting our baggage sorted out, we flew out of Atlanta and into Jackson Hole, WY.

We enjoyed lots of mountains (these are the Grand Tetons)...

...and waterfalls, mud pots, geysers, and other such sights.

We saw a lot of different animals like buffalo and elk.

We had fun with cousins...

...and spent a LOT of time driving (no they did not smile like this the whole time).

We spend some time wondering around the town of Jackson, WY...

...and saw Old Faithful twice (the second time we did not get wet).

But most of all, we got to spend time with family.

our friends are gone

We've been missing our hummingbird friends. The cooler days/nights have apparently sent them south. For the last couple months we've been enjoying watching them - especially in the mornings while we had school. It appeared that there were two pair (they would fight over the feeder). Then, one day, they were gone.

beach trip

We weren't planning to make the trip to Fripp with the Moseley clan this summer, but at the last minute I decided to go ahead and take the kids for a few days. Matt couldn't come because he had to work, but we had a good couple days. This was the very end of June/beginning of July (before teeth fell out and hair got cut).

one more tooth

Nathan lost another tooth (by pliers) today. It's the third total. One of the top ones is about halfway in, so he still has 2.5 holes. We also found out at the dentist a couple weeks ago that his first set of permanent molars are coming in.

she loves to pray

Whenever it comes time to ask the blessing before a meal, Caroline is always the first to volunteer. She loves to pray. Her prayers generally go something like this:

God, thank you for our food. And thank you for giving us a good day. Thank you for all the people in the world who aren't strangers. And thank you for everybody in our family that we love. And thank you for... Amen.

I love to listen to all the things she's thankful for. And I occasionally have to chuckle at things she says and the way she puts them. But she always thanks God for the little "normal" things in our lives - just whatever happened that day. I hope that she'll keep that spirit of thankfulness as she grows up.

what they hear comes out their mouths

Earlier this evening, Sara was sitting on the floor near me "playing" with her money. I heard her saying "I'm going to have to spank you" and I look over to see her "spanking" a coin. She then proceeds to put it on top of a bill and then say "Stay there. You have to stay in there or you'll get a spanking." She was trying to fold it up inside. I just wish I would have had a video camera close enough to catch it.

double toothless

Nathan is now double toothless (his words). His other top tooth has been really bothering him all day today so he took a pair of pliers after it tonight. Apparently the pliers didn't work, but he did get it out. Here is the picture that he wanted to include. He said that he needed his mouth open to get a good picture of where the tooth was missing. :)

piano video

So finally...here is a video of Nathan playing the piano. This is from January. He had been doing Christmas songs in December, so I had him play a few when a video was requested. It only took me 6 months to actually put it up! He did move on to a few songs that were a little more complicated, but this is still basically what you would hear if you stopped by the house.

first hair cut

Sara got her first hair cut today. It's been on the "to do" list for a while, but we finally found time (when her hair was clean). She moved the entire time so it may need a little touch up later, but I think it's looking much better. I didn't cut much on the sides at all. I wanted to leave it as long as possible. I mainly just tried to even it all out.

PS: Caroline also got a trim, but it doesn't look much different. She wants her hair to be "Rapunzel Length".

tooth #3

Nathan lost his third tooth today (with just a little help). It's the top middle left tooth. The right one is loose as well but it wasn't quite ready to come out yet. He just may be missing his two front teeth for our big vacation at the end of the month.

Our Day - part 2 (finally)

So...finally...here's our day after lunch. Generally, after lunch, Nathan gets back to schoolwork. This day, it was reading a book with Mommy - well, Mommy reading.

In the meantime, the girls occupy themselves. Some days they watch tv and other days they just play.

Then Nathan moves on to piano. He practices 15 - 30 minutes each day. Lately, he's been learning hymns.

While he's practicing, I get Sara down for her nap.

...and Caroline starts her down time.

Nathan usually gets a little more schoolwork in before his down time. This day he was working on some sign language.

There's not a picture of Nathan's down time. He usually has 45 minutes of school reading and then some free down time. It's not unusual for him to read longer than required. After downtime he finishes up about 30 minutes of school. This day he was working on a program to allow kids to create simple computer programs/games.

Once everybody is up, they usually spend the afternoon playing. Here they are rolling up in their quilts. I have no idea what they were this day.

After Daddy gets home, we eat supper. Apparently I didn't actually cook this day (we don't usually have sandwiches and salad for supper).

The evening involves any number of activities (which is part of the reason this post took so long to put together). The vast majority of the time this includes cleaning.

Eventually the kids get ready for bed...put on their pj's, go potty...

...brush teeth...

...read their Bible stories and pray (usually everybody would be on the couch together)...

...and head to bed by 8:00.

The End.

really...eventually...

If anybody out there is wondering...I am working on getting the rest of our day posted. The problem is getting the pictures. One day I got some after lunch until I started supper. Today, I got some of supper. Maybe Monday I'll get the rest of the evening. :) It may have to be pieced together, but I'll get it eventually.

first baseball game

Today was Nathan's first baseball game. Granddad is his coach. Here are a few pictures from the game. (PS: Don't miss the other new post below.)
